streetdreams
was looking into why my car shudders above 70km/hr around 2300rpm someone mentioned the torque converter could be out of whack and trying to connect, try disconnecting it at the sensor and see if it still does it, I removed the sensor and it didnt happen, though the coolant light went on for some strange reason and the car seemed to sound like shit though that coulda jus been me. another guy told me not to run without this plugged in for too long as it is harder on the engine and tranny, and also causes higher revs etc my question now is wtf does all this mean?? does it mean the torque converter is slipping? worn out? needs to be replaced, sign of tranny swap ahead, what can I do to fix this, and has anyone experienced problems such as this? Tru2Chevy
If the car shudders, it could be the converter clutch going bad. Unplugging the lockup is a free fix, and won't cause any real damage to the engine/trans. The converter will no longer lockup, so the trans will heat up a little more than usual on long highway drives because there will always be some slippage in there. The lockup has been unplugged on my Lumina for about 5 years, and the tranny still shifts great, just keep an eye on the fluid, make sure it's not burnt. - Justin
