rudefyet
I know this has probably been covered a thousand times, but would the bottom end on my stock 3.1 be able to handle ~12psi of boost?
jeremy
I highly doubt 12psi..........maybe 3 or 4 psi, maybe
maybe2fast
how many miles are on the stock 3.1? if it is your 169K 3.1, I would say how is your maintance? Also the motor may be able to handle the power of the Turbo no problem, but the tranny will most definitly fall victim to the 12psi... rudefyet
i'm replacing the trans, so that's not an issue the engine itself is the 169k 3.1, it runs flawless, and would be getting all new gaskets before it would ever get turboed (probably newer heads and intake too). I just need to know if i need to go get an LG5 block/crank if i want the boost stated above. I've heard from some people theres major differences, and others that they're pretty much the same (LH0 vs LG5 that is) If i have to, I can get a low mileage LG5 for $
Guest TurboSedan
the only difference is that the LG5 pistons are made by Mahle with a steel reinforcing band in them. some people say that the crank is surface hardended and some people say that the block has a higher nickel content but i haven't seen anyone prove that yet. the LG5 also got a better Melling HV oil pump. if you use the TGP heads (or '89 NA LHO 3.1 heads) you'll have same 8.8:1 CR as the LG5. i honestly think the LHO will handle 8-10psi no problem if you don't abuse it. 3-4psi pffft...c'mon now the LHO is stronger than that btw if you can get a complete low mileage LG5 for $300 just go with that. mfewtrail
I doubt you would have any problems with running 12psi from a TGP turbocharger on your stock short block. Your regular 4T60 probably won't live too long though.
slick
Running the T25 on your stock engine should be fine. Of course you will have to mess with timing and fuel, but thats another issue. Be sure to use an FMIC, or else it would be just plain stupid. Your tranny is another issue though...
jeremy
3-4psi pffft...c'mon now the LHO is stronger than that I know but with that mileage, i wouldn't boost it at all unless I already was planning a rebuild
maybe2fast
:withstupid: I would only run stock TGP boost t the most. Only due to the mileage
EurosportZ34
interesting! 8) so your saying that i can pretty much get a turbocharger, ic, hoses and shit, TGP heads, and "pretty much" have an LG5 outta my LH0?
Guest TurboSedan
yes, although your 'weakest link' will be the LHO pistons.
gp90se
use a 3.4 crank, its hardend, C&C machined heads with thick headgaskets to get 8.5psi, run 15psi of boost with 30# injectors, a jeff M chip and a 284 5 speed. Lemme know how it works out
Guest TurboSedan
i wish you the best of luck getting Jeff M to make a chip that will work with a 5-speed! that's DIY territory.
