subceng Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 hi guys, i have a 1991 gran prix 3.4 DOHC that is continually flattening the battery, i have put a test light between the post and the wiring and the only thing that puts the test light on is the timer interior lights, when they go off so does the test light, let the car sit for a week and all is well it starts fine, but let it sit again for a while and its so flat it is not enough to turn on the interior lights. i have tried test components to locate this fault to no results. so, is it possible the centre console compass display be enough to flatten the battery? Regal_GS_1989 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 I have never heard anyone use the term "flatten" to describe a discharging battery. Anyways, I would check to make sure that the terminals are tight/clean Even take them off and put them back on. Next thing I would do is hook an ammeter up to the battery to check for a current draw(there will be a very small draw). Make sure that the key is off and all the lights are off. If there is a draw, i would pull each fuse one by one to see if the draw drops off. If there is no draw, then I would check the battery. The battery might no be able to hold a charge anymore. Quote
95 3-4 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 I'm suprised the test light goes out after the int. timer light goes out, the radio usually draws a little but mayhaps you have taken that out of the loop for testing purposes That said it sounds like you may have a very weak battery, your making sure the int. lights go out all the time and not most of the time ? cutlass1991 Posted April 18, 2005 Report Posted April 18, 2005 if it keeps going flat, there is a simple fix. They sell it at any parts store. It's called fix-a-flat, and it comes in cans. that should do the trick. Quote
