mewantsa87gnx
So I just put on a Cone Air Filter on my 95 MonteZ34 yesterday and I like what I hear and feel, this thing really makes a difference, I wasn't expecting such a difference. So now with the first mod past me, I cought the modding bug, I want to do more things to this beast. What else can I do that doesn't require mucho dinero or mechanical prowess, basically what can I pick up and my local Autozone and put on myself. Remember its all stock, besides that cone filter. 90TGP
1) You can get a billet aluminum upper motormount from Fast FWD Performance. http://www.fastfwdperformance.com/db.htm It is MUCH stronger then the factory motor mount and it looks a lot better. It reduces the motor movement so that the power gets to the ground faster. It'll make the car feel more responsive off the line. 2) For a little more money, and with the help of a mechanic, you can get the best bang for your buck. A Fast FWD Performance underdrive pully. http://www.fastfwdperformance.com/ud.htm It reduces parasitic power loss to bring back horsepower. You can do this yourself, but it is easier to let a mechanic do it for you. 3) If you still have the factory struts and they have some good miles on them, you can increase the handling on your by replacing your struts with new KYB GR2's all around. These are a little stiffer then the factory struts. 4) You can stop by your local GM dealer and ask for a 98+ Buick K-Bar. It's a front strut tower brace. You'll have to drill two holes on each side of your front strut towers into the tower plates [they're black]. It's easy to do if you have a drill with a good bit. I believe this is the parts number for it: Part# 12456148 About $20 give or take with taxes. Hope this helps

Actually, ZZPerformance sells mounting plates for these strut bars so you don't have to do any drilling of the strut towers: http://www.zzperformance.com/products1.php?id=139&PHPSESSID=7f80f98b45f1535df94e6d1da03f62f0 Just be sure you order the "Early Model" style ... z34_nut
replace the cat, polish the throttle body, open the exhaust a little. re-locate the coil packs. the list really goes on and on.
Aaron
replace the cat, polish the throttle body, open the exhaust a little. re-locate the coil packs. the list really goes on and on. I disagree with everything you said. I noticed NO horsepower gains when I redid my exhaust, and I did it right. 100% NEW, with full 2.5" mandrel bends, and all Magnaflow components, and I noticed no gaisn at all over the factory setup. Polishing the TB isn't going to do anything, and certaintly didn't on mine either. Relocating the coils doesn't do jack either, just makes them easier to get to. Aaron
delco rapid fire #12 plugs Those aren't going to give you any horsepower, but they do last a whole lot longer, which is good.

I can't stand to see people throw money into performance shit when the car doesn't run right. so I stand beside my statement. polishing TB with get ride of some carbon, coil packs will be further from heat, a clogged cat will reduce power. who cares if you feel it or not. ugh i could just keep going. 90TGP
Exhaust should have given more power in the upper rpm's.

Aaron
Exhaust should have given more power in the upper rpm's. The stock Z34 exhaust isn't that bad, but I did it when i was stock. If I was to do it with all my mods now, I'm sure it'd help a lot.
Aaron
also, we're assuming its running rigth considering he started modding it int he first place. Trust me, I didn't start with a trouble-free car. I bought it with 9, YES 9, SES codes, and it took me months and hundreds of dollars to fix em. I just make sure its running 110% and thats why its still running 238,000 miles later. And it still doesn't run "perfect".

mewantsa87gnx
well its not running "perfectly" due to a cocked sparkplug in one of my heads that will not come out without a tap, and the spark plugs need changing, however my financial situation does not allow me to heli-coil (aluminum), the damn head so that spark plug will stay till i can, the pics are done, going to post them later today, and by the way i don't even have one SES light on, haven't had one since i bought in june , thanks guys

mewantsa87gnx
so i went to the dealership to get the K-Bar but they need more info to order it, they need the model and the specific year
topless94style
I do believe you can get the rear control arms from a new bonneville also, get some KYB struts, and possibly some springs from JCwhitney for a newer monte for the front end. I ordered them in Jan and they have been out since so who knows if they will get them in or not. I suppose those few things would take a little work though. Do what every one else said, the exhaust will help bring out some power. If your not scared of getting a little dirty, replace your timing belt and pulleys, but while your down that far, pull up the cam carriers and buy a set of lighter lifters from 60degreev6.
