perfecseal Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 OK i know that the 2.8 3.1 3x00 and the 3.8 trannys are all prety much interchangeable .. But I have the tranny that I pulled from my 92 3.4 dohc and a guy I work with has a 90 GP with a 3.1 and all but frist gear is out of the tranny.. Now will the 4t60-e tranny bolt into this car ?? I did a search and did not find a stright answer.. Hes giving me the car for 100$$ so I'm gona buy it regardless but if i can put in that tranny all the better.. Quote

Not a direct swap. Same goes for the 3.8 trannies. Completely different. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 I *think* the 1990 GP has the 4t60 (not 4T60e) so no I don't think it will work without some work.. Quote
cutlsp Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 the tranny in that car is vacuum controlled the tranny you have is electronically controlled. unless you can find the wiring harness that will plug into that tranny and run the 3.1 in it. your sol because it won't work. Quote
perfecseal Posted April 16, 2005 Author Report Posted April 16, 2005 I have almost everything from the 92..Tranny,wireing harness, ecu , axels , struts ext..ext ... Only thing that was sold was the motor.. Quote
1990lumina Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 It would be alot of work wiring it up and getting it to work corrently...but it's worth a try Quote
95 3-4 Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 All 3.4's and 93+ W's have 4T60E's Pre 92 2.8/3.1-3.8 have the same bellhousing pattern and use the same 4T60 a.k.a. TH440, this trans is controled by a TV (throtle valve) cable, the trans uses this signal along with its internal governor to determine shift points, it is a cable pulled out by the throttle blade bellcrank IMO much better trans than the E, then again I like easy troubleshooting, clean easy retrofits and long trouble free service life. digitaloutsider Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 I hear that.. the 4T60-e in my Bonneville shifts SO crisp and runs so smooth versus the POS 440T4 in the GP. Quote

I am very happy with the -E so far.. but I really think it was rebuilt around 10k ago.. according to Carfax, there was tranny service at 124k.. Quote
