HokemBokem Posted April 18, 2005 Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 went and bought a key and still would not start i decided to bring it to GM for the recall on luminas and also check what is wrong driving a grand am rent a car now hope it wont be anything expensive. Go back to page one of this post and read what I wrote: Usually what happens with these systems is the wires for the VATS reader break off from the ignition lock cylinder. My write-up shows you how to bypass the system without tearing into the steering column to replace the lock cylinder (that is, if you're afraid of tearing the column completely apart...) The "reader" is right on the end of the lock cylinder (right in the spot where the chip sits when the key is in the ignition) and there are 2 small wires that attach to the lock cylinder. They tend to break off over time. All my "bypass" does is places the proper resistance across those 2 wires so the VATS module thinks the proper key is in position...
