GnatGoSplat
My HUD is installed, exactly like factory except for a twist - I can force the HUD into daytime brightness along with the cluster by setting the interior lights dimmer to "MAX". The way the HUD is wired from the factory, you can't override nighttime brightness. Early Cutlass owners should know what I'm talking about. I swear the carpet looks cleaner in normal lighting! This pic makes me think I really need to do something about my pepper-colored glove compartment lid (it's original '89, the upper dash pad is '94 graphite). Damn camera flash washes everything out, grrrrr. Anyway, just thought I'd share my joy. It's really much more cool than my terrible photography skills make it look. 91CuttyConv
Looks pretty good and very factory which I like. Way to go!! Jason
88Intl
Looks good! Is there some kind of pushbutton on yours, in the carpeted section of dash directly under the glovebox latch? I resized this photo to look normal for a forum post, and lost resolution
GnatGoSplat
Thanks for the compliments! I'm very pleased with how the install went, because all the wiring is very factory-like. Soldered to factory splices where possible, and within a couple inches of a factory splice if the splice was inaccessible. No, that thing below the glovebox knob is the air vent/inlet for the interior air sensor. It's for the auto climate control.
Brian P
Looks good but where's your stereo>?!
GnatGoSplat
The stereo is my next trick! I yanked it for the big downgrade. Gonna replace my fancy Reference Standard Sony CDX-C90 with a consumer-grade somewhat gaudy new HU. There are soooo many reasons the C90 is superior but ONE, and it's the display. Absolutely unreadable in daylight. I need a good display in the car where I can just glance down to see the radio station or clock. I don't need great SQ anyway, I usually have the stereo turned down because the wife likes to :yak: :yak: :yak: and I need to make like I'm listening. I feel bad about it though, and am definitely having second thoughts because I love everything about the C90 EXCEPT the display.

GnatGoSplat
awww the wife. Enjoy her! I do! She's such a sweetie. Extra bonus that she likes W-bodies too. Yesterday she was crying about her old '88 Cutlass because her mom's been putting on the pressure for her to give or sell it to her 31yr old brother since he loses his company truck in 2-weeks and can't afford to buy a car (he already got his house repo'd so we had to give him our old one letting him stay 2 months free and taking over payments). She still loves that car and can't stand to see it trashed. Her brother trashes every vehicle he's ever owned, smokes, and I guarantee he'll run that car into the ground and it'll be sold for scrap within 2yrs. She's leaning towards keeping it even though it'll cause problems in the family, but it sorta looks bad that we have 5 functional vehicles when he just has one beat up old Bronco that he ran into the ground and it no longer moves on its own power. Ugh. We shoulda moved out of state!
Brian P
I have an idea that will cure all. "disable" the '88 You know these cars well enough, just pull the ecm fuse and show a family member how it won't run at all!
GnatGoSplat
I tried to tell her to tell them the tranny blew and would cost $2000 to replace, but she has trouble with lying. It woulda been a good story too, because the side pan is leaking and there IS tranny fluid under it! One problem, she already explained to her mom that we'd help him find a car, because she didn't want to give him hers because he smokes and trashes them. It would be just too obvious if suddenly she came up with the, "it doesn't run" story. Plus, her mom would probably volunteer to have the car towed someplace to have it fixed so her baby boy of 31yrs can have a car!!!

SuperBuick
her mom's been putting on the pressure for her to give or sell it to her 31yr old brother since he loses his company truck in 2-weeks and can't afford to buy a car My mom tried the same thing to me. Since I'll be selling the Z34 in a few months to pay for a down payment on my new car (2000-2002 Camaro SS 6sp), shes trying to pressure me into selling it to my sister. When I told her no because my sister wouldnt be able to drive stick, she says "well then you keep that and sell her your Buick" I about fell over. after all the work I put into that car to make it look brand new my sister could, in about 30 mins, make it look older than the 1990 model year that it is and add 100,000 miles to it in terms of wear and tear. I don't know how she does it. She absolutely DEVASTATES cars. -Tom

I connected my HUD to the cluster's dimmer and i can have it all to the daytime brightness and i can also have it so dark that you cant see it, what i did when i dont want to use it i installed a switch that makes it so dark its harly notticable but its good when you are driving on a dark highway and it doesnt blind you. Looks good, PS i have a 1st gen HUD.
