Alright since it's gettin warm out im goin to start to pull the 2.8 out and fix my little knockin problem. I know im goin t hve to replace bearins and maybe the crank if its damaged. Is there anything else i should replace or check out? Maybe the oil pump?

uhhh, you could just replace the mainbearings but thats like working on a time bomb, just get yourself a good used 3.1 or 2.8, you'll be much happier. and besides you could have damaged something other then a mainbearing like a connecting rod, scared the crank, destroyed a endcap. its anyones guess.

these engines are cheep enough anymore, just get a new (used) one.

not wise to tear that motor apart..

Drop a 3.1 on there.. you'll just need a different MEMCAL chip for the ECM, VSS, and you can chuck the MAF sensor (since your's is a 88). If you decide to keep the 2.8 I'd understand... god I love the way those sound! :)

I just find that 2.8s have a cooler sound. More of a higher tone if you ask me. Probably cause you gotta rev them up higher to get them going but maybe someone here has a better answer. The added power of 3.1 is well worth it though over having an 18 second car. 3.1s sound pretty damn close to a 2.8, but 3100s sound nothing like the 3.1

get a 3.4

I'm dying to know how he'd even begin to run that thing in an '88 car. I envision an upper harness swap, tranny swap, or custom memcal to say the least (3.4 program without the 60-E provisions?)

How many miles on the 2.8 anyway?

i really cant say how many miles are on the 2.8 because the guy i got it from changed the dashes because of a broken fuel gauge and he didn't remember if he put the other one back in or not.

you need a 5 foot breaker bar  and need to soak the bolts in pb blaster.

you can make a 5 foot plus breaker bar with some exhaust piping
