88Regal Limited Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Hey, I have a little problem..... When I drive up an incline and the gas tank is at least 3/4 full I can smelll gas fumes throughout the car. The mechanic says that there is no leak whatsoever. (Then again the same gut said no power was getting to the rear de-icer but there wasnt even a switch... and the same guy that screwed up the dash 2-4 times....) Any Idia what it could be? This has been happining for about 6 months, I'm tired if it. Quote
GP1138 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 How many clicks do you turn the gas cap when you screw it down? Quote
runt Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 And are you SURE that there isn't a small leak possibly at the very top of the tank? Quote
DiscoStudd Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Just a guess but the evap canister could be leaking, or the purge solenoid is shot. Quote
White93z34 Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 i oughta see that for myself, and its possable and most likely IMO that the tank has a few pinholes way near the top. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 11, 2005 Report Posted April 11, 2005 Maybe a leak on the sending unit? You're probably best to take a look for yourself. If you got a garage or park it somewhere where the gas woun't evaporate off the ground (if you have a leak) try putting a piece of plastic under the tank area to catch any dripping. Fucking w-body gastanks are shit! Quote
regalguy26 Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 i bet that there is a crack in the vapor pipe that goes along the filler tube, when my tank is full it does that, also garanteed the steel lines that go to vapor canister to the right of the filler neck ( get under car to see, they are proble broken Quote
1990lumina Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 Wow, why are some many people's gas tanks rusting out or getting holes in them?? I looked at my tank the toher day (although this was the bottom of the tank) and there is no corrosion on it at least - and this car is driven to hell and back through winter through salt and all types of shit.... Anyway, I'd look at that canister myself because if the smell is throughout the cabin my guess is the fumes are spreading through the HVAC...JMO though. - Jeff L. Quote
