88regal Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 Hi, I am writing to find out if anybody can tell me if what I am thinking of doing will work. I have an 88 Buick regal and and I want to install a heads-up display unit taken from a 91 Grand Prix. I already have a digital dash in the car, so the speedo information is already in a digital format, but i want to find out if there are going to be any major stumbling blocks ahead. Any help would be appreciated, so that I can have some idea of how it will turn out before I start cutting up my dash. Thanks Quote
eclipse5302 Posted September 15, 2002 Report Posted September 15, 2002 You should be able to connect all the wiring just fine, there will be no problem there once you figure out how it's supposed to be wired up. I'm sure you'll have to make a custom bracket for mounting the HUD to the dash, as well. The biggest problem will be making the HUD look good cosmetically once it's installed. Jason Quote
88regal Posted September 16, 2002 Author Report Posted September 16, 2002 Yeah, you're right about that last part especially. The regal has a perfectly flat dash on top, so I haven't decided if I really want a single lump where the HUD would be. On the othe hand, i might be able to mount it flus with the dash somehow. I 'll have to do some research to see if that's possible. Thanks. Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 Perfectly flat dash? In that case, you'd be better off with a HUD from a Cutlass Supreme. Those cars had a perfectly flat dash and HUD option from 88-94. Quote
88regal Posted September 16, 2002 Author Report Posted September 16, 2002 I didn't know that the cutlasses dash was very similar. Was the HUD flush-mounted? Quote
eclipse5302 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 No, it mounts to the surface. 88-90 mounted to the dash panel without any brackets. 91-94 used a bracket that bolted to the dash and the dash pad. Jason Quote
