Moddedgtp Posted April 5, 2005 Report Share Posted April 5, 2005 I got a 02 GTP and i was wondering how hard it is to put in a new waterpump?? She went out today not bad i cant still drive it and it doesnt get old its just sparying coolant. My buddies dad checked it out hes a GM tech, and he said its for sure the waterpump!! sl3196 Posted April 5, 2005 Report Share Posted April 5, 2005 1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . 2. Loosen water pump pulley bolts. 3. Remove drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L. 4. Remove the water pump pulley bolts. 5. Remove water pump pulley. 6. Remove power steering pump and reposition. 7. Remove the water pump bolts. 8. Remove water pump. 9. Remove the water pump gasket. 10. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces. Installation Procedure 1. Install the water pump gasket. 2. Install the water pump. Notice Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. 3. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten * Tighten the long water pump bolts to 34 N·m (25 lb ft). * Tighten the short water pump bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft). 4. Install the water pump pulley. 5. Install the water pump pulley bolts. Tighten Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 13 N·m (115 lb in). 6. Install the power steering pump and the power steering bolts. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering Systems. 7. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L. 8. Fill the cooling system.
