97cutlass
Hi all!Haven't had much time to post or even browse this forum since I found it.Have to say though,it is a wealth of information & great job by all that contribute .Thanks! A new problem sprung up on my way to work yesterday. My ABS light came on.The brakes still seem to be working though. But,without ABS.With a snow/ice packed parking lot at work was easy to confirm that the antilock mechanism wasn't coming on when it should.Weird thing is ,when starting the car the Abs functions properly for the first minute or so then, light comes on & nothing. Anyone ever have a similar problem?Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated .Thanks.
Guest RedCutlassSL
Make sure your charging system is working properly. I had that same problem.
crc
Sounds like code-scanning time.. See if you can get a shop to scan the ABS codes for you.. It should be stored even if it doesn't come back on.
Paul GTP
Does the light comes on when you driving ? or when car is in parking. if the light comes on when you start driving, This may indicate wheel sensors problems (usually elecrical connectors).Had the same problem on my car

GPRACER
could still be a sensor or harnes. any abnormal wheel bearing noises? '97 has integral bearing/sensor
hambone
on my 'lude i had a similiar problem. it turned out to be one of the wheel speed sensors. it was fairly easy to check though. i think it required a resistance of between 500-900 ohms when checked at the harness connection. you should be able to get the specs for the gm here somewhere...
