90TGP
Other then the fact that we all know our brakes are weak, but something weird happened to my brakes. Ok, background on my car. 1990 TGP, the ABS brakes have been removed by the previous owner and replaced with vacuum brakes. I had the rear calipers completely replaced with new ones 2-3 years ago because they both seized. Also had the rotors and pads replaced at the same time. Fast forward: I had the rotors replaced with the cross-drilled ones from the group-buy and replaced the pads with titanium metallics from Advanced Auto. Also had the calipers painted at the same time. When I first got the car, the brakes weren't exactly great. The pedal went to the floor a little bit more then they should have [of course this is because it doesn't have the ABS anymore], but I was used to it. Wasn't too bad. After the rotors/pads were replaced with the cross-drilled ones, the pedal goes straight to the floor. I hear a swoosh of air as I pressed the brake pedal down. The car still has some stopping power, but I have to slow down way early. What could cause the brake pedal to go down like that? Weak booster, bad master cylinder, calipers became unadjusted when painted, or something else? I'm going to have the car checked out by a mechanic soon, and I'm going to get the stainless steel brake lines installed.

GutlessSupreme
Bleed'em :withstupid: sounds like air in the lines..
90TGP
I had them bled, but it didn't fix it. I'll have all of the fluid drained and refilled when the new lines go in.
mikey007
Sounds like a brake booster problem?
90TGP
I asked my mechanic about the booster, he said the pedal would get rock hard if the booster went bad.
Brian P
if there's no air in the system then yes, it could be the master.
no1kicker
Depressurize the brakes with the car off, then turn the key to on and see if the pump runs. I had a problem where the pump wouldn't run at all, same thing happened.
