Hi all,

My engine coolant from my car(Lumina 1992 3.1L) drain out a little spot on the floor when I park the car. What is the problem. On my starter I say Engine Coolant when they have some Engine Coolant on the floor. What is the problem?

Thanks Frank

Hmmmm...ok.

Well, if you have engine coolant on the floor, you have a leak...depending on where it is, it could be a hose, a hose connection, heater core hose, oil cooler hose (3.1?) or the radiator itself. While in theory it could also be the water pump seal, I have the feeling these pumps auto destruct before they leak.

The Engine Coolant light indicates low engine coolant level. It will test itself on startup but will remain on if it detects a low engine coolant level. If you're leaking a lot, you may have air in the system, or your expansion/recovery tank is empty and your system is truly low.

Find out what is wrong and fix it...that's pretty much the only way to stop the leak. While you have the system drained (i.e. if it's a hose) might as well change them both.

Good luck. If you need to replace the water pump, I've got a great write-up for that. http://members.aol.com/regal231/wtpump.htm

is it near the passenger side moreso?

if it is i will bet money its the metal coolant tube that runs from the waterpump to the heater core, pull the wheel on pass side and inepect the hose )might have to pull aditional covering as well) if its all rusted out, go out and get some heater hose and a hose clamp run the heater hose to the waterpump houseing and run the other end to where the heater line is not rusted, cut the line there and fit the hose over the end of the line and use the hose clamp to seal it up.
