Synergy6915 Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 With the help of a friend we replaced the thermostat on my 96 lumina. After we took the throttle body assembly off to replace the thermostat the gasket broke apart so had to put a new one on. Now when i start the car it starts fine but we hear a high pitch air noise and the car dies. Pushing slightly on the gas peddle causes the car to idle up to the extreme but the car quickly goes back down and dies. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Prospeeder Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 sounds like u got an extreme vacuum leak, and the car is running so lean it dies, but i could be wrong, or it could be trying to make the correct air mixture and actually dieing from flooding it Quote
Synergy6915 Posted April 3, 2005 Author Report Posted April 3, 2005 Ok so if thats the case could taking off the throttle body assembly and replacing the gasket cause that? The old gasket was a plastic type material and had no sealant on it. The new one was a cardboard type gasket and claims to not need sealant either. Quote
Prospeeder Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 cardboard type? that might be it right there, is it a GM part? Quote
Synergy6915 Posted April 3, 2005 Author Report Posted April 3, 2005 From Oreilly's Auto Parts. It was not a gm part. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Did you put all the TB bolts back in? Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Did you put all the TB bolts back in? Yeah, I forgot to tighten mine back up when I changed the t-stat and the car ran real shitty- high idle and got real hot. After I tightened the bolt it ran like a champ. Quote
Synergy6915 Posted April 3, 2005 Author Report Posted April 3, 2005 Fixed. Turned out the gasket had accidently been installed upside down. Dont ask me how that happened but yeah..... Now the car runs Runs kinda nice too with all the carbon cleaned out from the inside Quote
