fastbird232
I'm looking at buying another Grand Prix, this one's an '89 SE 2.8 (2-door) with all the bells and whistles. The guy says it's been frying alternators left and right. He says it's probably the voltage regulator. Now, where is that on our cars, and will having a donor Lumina Euro 3.1 (roughly the same year) help me any?
93CutlassSupreme
the voltage regulator is integral with the alternator
fastbird232
Why does it keep frying, then?

Prospeeder
cant blow fuses do that too?
94CutlassSLCoupe
Blown fuses would cut a shorting out circut off from working...so that would keep the alternator from extra load. I would bet that the alternator lead wire or another important positive lead is probably chaffed and arching to the body, putting extra strain on it and then shortening alternator life.
