hosser
its that time of the year again and i am just curious what oil should i dump into it this time sense its getting warmer. I ran basic penzoil 10w-30 for the winter. There is about 137k on the ticker. I think this might be a repost but i didnt have any luck with the search button :-P so any info or directions to previous posts thatd be great. hosser
well yeah... i am just looking to see if any of that high mileage crap is worth it or what is the best brand and weight.
White93z34
high mileage stuff is generally overpriced crap. i run Castrol GTX 5w30 in my LQ1 year round with a ACD PF-52 filter.i have 135k on mine and castrol seems to get along with it prety well, never burns oil. 99RegalGS
I run AmsOil in both my cars. seems to work well.
5speedz34
Amsoil here it's the best stuff on the market. And with all moving parts for the DOHC that's all I would do.
THe_DeTAiL3R
You can put synthetic but you'll have to change it soon anyways cause it will get all dirty from the dino-oil buildup (especially after 137k) I don't know how long it takes to get a "clean" engine, and keep in mind you risk oil leaks as well. I'd only use synthetic on an engine with less than 60k (100,000km) just cause there shouldn't be any issues to worry about. So you can spend lots of $$ on syntheic, or just use regular oil (5 or 10w30 I don't think it really matters) and change it every 3000k, or whenever you're bored. EurosportZ34
i used Mobil 1 for high mileage engines on my LQ1...
Turbo231
I use Mobil 1 5w30 on mine as well...that being said I only change my oil once a year...I figure 1 year or 4000 miles, which ever comes first...usually the first. My car has 130k on the ticker.
john99gtp
only 4000 miles in one year? what car is that?
GOT2B GM
I imagine he only drives his GTP in the winter, hence the "winter fleet".
john99gtp
:cough: he just, JUST put that sig up, it wasnt that before edit: in retrospect, that was actually a dumb question i asked, lol
Turbo231
Actually not even that. Last year it was this... Regal - 1,284 (77K) GP - 2,006 (130K) Fiero - 2,221 (60k) S-10 - 3,603 (118k) Only the S-10 got 2 oil changes...I do it every 2k miles cause it's under $10 bucks (regular oil) and she's got some blow-by....I use Mobil 1 in everything else...just to stay on topic... joey b
I've converted to Full synthetic in 3 cars with 95K+ miles and have never had any troubles from it. One was converted at 160+ and still did not leak or burn oil.
timg
I always run Max Life oil- it cuts down on leaks and lifter tick. It's a conventional/synthetic blend with a really good additive package. Tim

timg
Don't tell my floors that! There's a guy on http://www.s2ki.com named Road Rage who has done quite a few UOA's and new oil analysis's. Not many oils impress him (including Mobil 1...), but the Max Life oil and the Max Life Engine Protectant did. Tim
