loominaz34
Hey all, i went to change my plugs yesterday and I found the #4 plug to get more difficult to turn the more I tried to loosen it. I'm basically positive it's cross threaded but is there any way to get the plug out without damaging the head now that it's in? I really want to avoid retapping my cylinde heads if I can at all avoid it.
5speedz34
Wait, so is this the new plug or the old plug? If its the old plug I would think that all you did was strip the threads on it. If that's the case then try to get something back there to "grab" onto it. If it's the new plug it looks like you're going to have to heli-coil it. cutlsp
if its a new plug your fucked. you will have to rethread the hole somehow this is why aluminum heads suck
loominaz34
It's the old plug and the head of the plug that the socket goes onto is fine. I got the plug to loosen about 1/2 trn before it tightened up. I checked that I was turning the wrench the right direction about a million times and I was in fact loosening the plugs. GOT2B GM
That happened on the #3 cylinder, on the back head of my moms old 96 Z34. We were doing head gaskets at the time so we had the machine shop remove the plug and helicoil the head. The heads were at the machine shop anyways to get resurfaced.
