Dirty Rockstar
Kinda odd.. Now.. I can most likely get a cavalier parts car with a 5 speed.. I am not sure of the engine in it.. But I am betting it is the 4 banger.. (No 3.1MPFI badges).. Now, I think these got the 2.2/3 QUAD 4, which measns a different bell housing.. But I want to know is: 1) Was the QUAD transmission a 282? 2) Can the bell housings be swapped out? Just want to know.. THe only thing I want from the car is the 5 speed.. Thanks! White93z34
most likely a 282. no the bellhouseings are cast as part of the tranny caseing. so the 4 banger trans would be right out for a v6.

94CutlassSLCoupe
why was i thinking the bellhousings were all the same??? starters are in the same location and they *look* the same to me. I would measure them
Guest Anonymous
ive got a 5 speed you can have...
slick
Nope, the 2.3's have different bellhousing's than the 60*'s. You could possibly make a plate for it to work, but you would be better off finding the correct tranny for your application.
94CutlassSLCoupe
a cavy would probably have a 2.2L OHV engine with the isuzu transaxle anyhow...I think it would have to be an "N" body to have a 2.3 Quad
JoroCorona
What year? If its the 2.4 TC it might work with an adapter plate. However, in Neptune, NJ I've found a pair of Z34 5-speeds with nuked motors, but alright trannies. Maybe I cound sell ya one of the two? These trannies are 284s
Canada
If I remember right, the bellhousings ARE interchangeable. I gather the front case half can be swapped out if you are careful. I KNOW a guy on Berettastuff has done this (he has 92+ Q4 gears in his 3X00 Hybrid Cavalier that runs like 13.9). But this is a moot point anyway..........the Cavalier will have an Isuzu trans if it has a 2.0/2.2/2200/2.3/2.4. The Isuzu trans might just bolt up, but it certainly won't like the torque of a V6.........and while the bellhousing might match, I don't know about otyher stuff (mounts etc). They only got the 282 with the older V6 2.8/3.1's and the gears are a little long for W-Body's with their tall ass tires.
