skiiirt
So I'm trying to get a K&N Cone Air Filter. I have ran into a plethora of problems. For some retarded reason my parts store says it will take them 1 month to get a K&N Kit for my car. (Tubing etc) I also believe this will cost a small fortune. Now my question to you is this Can I go to home depot and buy some venting pipe and jury rig it up to my intake. The only questions I have are what are disadvantages to doing this over waiting for the K&N kit. The intake is oval in shape, if i do go the HD route and buy some venting will this create air pockets when bending the pipe to fit the hole? What size of cone should I get? Also do the K&N filters have a plug for the sensor? BTW This is on a 3.
JJ77
You will need 2 holes for the IAT sensor and your EGR in your intake pipe. Your best bet is to start with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7964357055&category=38634 then you can make it cold air later. Hell the price of a new K&N cone filter is almost as much as that intake. BTW thats what I have right now.
sonyman87
first off Search 2nd. dont waist your money a K&N dropin will do just fine if you dont do a true cai $45 should be about right BTW fenderwell intakes are rated far above a short ram. this was discussed just last week
topless94style
Im working on designing a ram air/CAI kit for our cars to come out sometime this summer. If testing goes as planned, and physics works correctly, it should prove to be a good kit. A fender wall intake is the way to go, i wouldnt even waste the time of putting a WAI on. skiiirt
Looks like it's way too much work for what I am looking for. Basically I am sick of $4 fram air filters, secondly I am not looking for major performance boost. I am looking to get rid of that ugly ass black box. 3rd waaay to much effort for what little performance a air filter can give. I think WAI is just fine for me. Maybe once I get the exhaust put on and the major problems like tie rods and struts get fixed then maybe I will relocate the battery. As for now all I need to do is replace my air filter and I thought what better way than a K&N Cone
runt
Trust me. Skip the WAI. Either move the battery to the back, of find a way to get the cone some cold air. You will thank yourself in the future. Or just do a regular drop in for it. Those seem to work pretty good.
EurosportZ34
don't buy that one from ebay all you need is a 3" cone filter and custom make your tubing you don't have to move the battery to the trunk...if you work it out just right you can fit into the fender well by bending it some try it out...if you don't like it then you can buy the one from your parts store
JJ77
Whats wrong with one from ebay? You could use it until you made it into a CAI

HokemBokem
Whats wrong with one from ebay? ...it's gay I had a WAI for a while and didnt really notice any difference beside how loud it was. But I did hear in that thread a while back that putting a WAI gets you better gas mileage so if thats true I might have to put min eback on
skiiirt
The only thing is the average price of a cone filter here is about the price of that auction. I may as well get the piping and brackets for the extra $5 or $7 it will cost me. So I don't have to go searching for these materials.
