GOT2B GM
I've got a 92 Z34 parts car with 240,000 kms (149,xxx mi) on the powertrain. The motor has a blown timing belt. I'm going to put a new belt and idler pullies on it to get it running(good used parts that I got for free). My friend wants to buy just the motor, once I get it running. Granted it runs well, I have no idea what to charge him. I don't want to rip him off, but I want to make the work worth my while. Any input is appreciated. Canada
You are putting a used belt and idler on a motor? WHY???? (other than the free option) Thats just asking for a failure. Also....you have to consider you MIGHT have bent a valve or five. Sometimes the LQ1 is weird like that.

THe_DeTAiL3R
Half of what you think the car is worth...
Guest Anonymous
I wouldnt even sell him that engine... that could cause a fight. a 3.4 with ~150,000 miles and a blown timing belt that doesnt run is nothing but trouble!
patgizz
i sold one with 100k that lost the timing belt tensioner at low rpm(verified no internal damage) for $75 and gave the kid a new belt and tensioner with it. even had the $120 aftermarket oil pump in it. GOT2B GM
Well, a new timing belt costs 80 dollars here. I'm mainly putting the used belt on just to see how it runs, and its better than the broken one thats on there now. We replaced the belt and idlers on my moms Monte Z34 when we did the head gaskets on it, just because it was an easy time to do it. This belt and idlers are the ones that came off of it. We compared the old belt to the new belt, and the old one was still like new. No hairs, or black dust from it. The bearings in the idlers are very smooth. Theres no sense investing a ton of money in a motor, when you don't know what other underlying conditions there could be. Petty, you would know about buying trouble 3.4's Thanks for all the input.
