terryk2003
ok...just some questions...i was wondering if i can just swap out the lower intake manifold, plenum, and TB!?...will that gain me anything or no?...i'm planning on replacing the intake gaskets anywayz, so i'm thinkin if i can gain anything, and if its a simple swap, i might as well just change the whole intake...i dunno...anyone with info, feel free to chime in...thanx
GP1138
First of all, the upper intake manifold IS the plenum, so yes, that, the lower intake, and the throttle body will net you a few HP due to the wider and longer intake runners. You'll notice it more in the upper RPM's. You'll have to swap the throttle linkage (where your throttle/CC cables go) but that's cake. You almost definitely have the roller rockers, so that's taken care of. That's the main problem I ran into. Allot around $500 for this swap, and have some extra sitting around for when you need to run out and buy shit in the middle of doing it. And finally, most important of all, if you do change your thermostat... DON'T BUY THE NEW THERMOSTAT FROM MEIJER!!!!! :bash: :bash:
terryk2003
ok...another question...are the intake gaskets different for the 3400 & 3100!?...if so, i'm assuming i need the lower gasket for the 3400!?...and, i pray its not gonna cost $500...i guess i need to call some JY's around here for prices on the parts...its its gonna cost that much, i could swap in a lower milage 3400 and go... The parts themselves (U/L intake manifold, and heads because I didn't have roller rockers) cost me in the neighborhood of $250 ($150 for the LIM/UIM/fuelrail and $50/ea for the heads) and the gaskets cost me $120 because I went GM. It's important to go GM for the gaskets because it is the updated design that doesn't leak, and I got the full (head, intake, valve cover, valve spring) gaskets set. Don't forget RTV. EDIT: Just go ask for gaskets for a 3400, because that way you know you've got the right ones. You would probably be just fine with getting the intake and valve cover gaskets, since you're not removing the heads.

Canada
You might make 5 hp. The intake runners are the same legnth, only fatter. The TB is 4 mm bigger......52 to 56. Swap the entire motor or go home.
