Russd47
I have a '94 olds cutlass supreme 3.4L and a '96 3.1L parts car. Can I swap the cruise control module from the the '96 to the '94? The parts look identical but the numbers on the lables are different.
Robby1870
Well, I think they changed from the normal vacuum cruises sometime in the mid 90's but Im not sure what year. If they look the same, have the same connections and are the same size (e.g. 88-90 cruises work and look the same as 91+ cruises, but the 91+ are smaller), then it should work. Plus, if it doesnt work, its an easy swap and wont cost you much time.
DiscoStudd
Have you compared the wiring harnesses between the 2? That may be the reason for the different part numbers. Either that or there's a difference in the throttle cables between the 2 motors ...
Russd47
The connectors on the two modules are the same, but on the '94 the wire to the "fused feed" (cavity F) is pink, while on the '96 it's brown. Unfortunately, I don't have a '96 shop manual so I don't know if the circuits are the same, and I don't want to damage the PCM or sensors. Does anyone have experience with this swap? Russd47
In case anyone is interested, I made this swap and it works, but now my idle speed has dropped about 20 rpm, which is OK because it was slightly high before--around 760. I have no clue why this happened.
