1990 Lumina Euro Coupe
I would like to ask anyone who has changed the coilpacks on a first-gen 3.1 a question: The Chilton manual says that a "Tech II scantool or equiv. is required when changing the coilpacks." Then at the end of the description, it goes on to tell you to use the scan tool to perform the idle relearn procedure. Now normally, I would just say that they are saying use the scan tool to preform the idle relearn, but I need to make sure that there is not some specific reason that the scantool is needed. I know how different these cars are from many of the others out there, and I also know that Chilton recommends tools by number often to get you to purchase them. If you have changed the colipacks in your car, did you just remove them and replace them, or did you need to use a scantool after they were replaced? I just needed to know so that I don't cause even more problems if it is required. Thanks!
Robby1870
remove and replace. No need for a scan tool. Idle relearn procedure is described in W-Body FAQs, I think
Brian P
you won't need to relearn idle is you don't disconnect the battery
1990 Lumina Euro Coupe
That's what I thought, guys. Thanks! I like Chiltons the best, but it seems to me that they write more towards professional mechanics, rather than people who do it for a hobby. You get things like "Use tool J-6052H or an equiv." frequently. Hopefully the Pree's problems may finally be solved tommorow. Thanks again!!
