Tru2Chevy
How fast are you losing coolant? Can you fill the radiator, start the car, and watch it come out? - Justin
Regal_GS_1989
You drained all of the coolant out of the motor right?? Did you make sure to tighten down the drian plugs on the block?? I have never had a heater core fail on a W before, so i'm not sure where it would leak from, but it may also be a leaking heater core. Or it could even be a cracked frost plug. cutlsp
did you get new head bolts? they strech out of shape and normally its best to replace both head gaskets at the same time.
GP1138
did you get new head bolts? they strech out of shape and normally its best to replace both head gaskets at the same time. We've been over this before. The head bolts on a 60*V6 are generally reusable. But yes, it is best to replace both gaskets at the same time. mfewtrail
Check the heater hoses at the rear of the engine, also look at the throttle body coolant lines and whatnot right under the throttle body/lower intake manifold area. If you had pictures of where the coolant is leaking, it would help us identifiy what your problem is. Also, did you follow the headgasket procedure(proper torque specs, put sealant on bolts protruding into the water jacket, etc?)?

Rushman04
wow you guys respond all at once which i like. i put brand new head bolts in i didn't want to chance a thing. All the gaskets and the head bolts are fel pro so i didn't go cheap. I followed the manual on what to do. I don't think it is the lower intake manifod because that is what i first thought but nothing coming out. Iam going to autozone and borrow the coolant pressure tester and see where is comes out. It doesn't drain out real fast but at a rate that i can't drive it with out over heating. I don't want to heat those heads up and wrap them(thats what happen to the first motor) Ill keep you guys posted and if i get any deeper i will take good pictures and post them. I hope it isn't a drain plug. :bawl: thanks for the help and any other idea you come up with post them.
cutlsp
it could also be the heater core drain pipe which means a bad heater core :? i know thats what was wrong with my maroon cutlass that died :?
1990lumina
Isn't there a steel (or some typew of metal) coolant line that runs along the front of the engine bay and it rusts out over time? And IIRC the common fix is to just put a piece of rubber heater hose where the corrosion is?? I posted this because I didn't see is was mentioned, but I also thought it was a more common problem..so what the hell... - Jeff L.
White93z34
what about that retarted quick dosconnect fitting, those like to leak. its located near the back on the lower intake, drivers side.
Rushman04
:!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: i figured it out what is wrong and it is the quick disconnect fitting. the thing leaks tords the back back it seem like a leak back there but it isn't. i put a brand new fitting on and it still leaks is there some type of wasker that i need over the end to stop the leak? White93z34
i'd try a regular rubber o ring that may fit over it, and make sure the line is bolted down good, those fittings can be very fickle at times.
