briandors Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 My dad has a 89 Regal and I have a 95 Cutlass Supreme. I love the front strut cartridge, rear leaf spring design. So easy to replace struts at either end. I don't think current w-bodies have that layout anymore? What was the last year (and which model) to be setup like this? Might wanna snag one in good shape. pwmin Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 all gen 1's have the transverse monoleaf (88-96) monte's and lumina's (95-99) are considered gen 1.5 and have mcpherson struts on all 4 corners. Quote
briandors Posted March 21, 2005 Author Report Posted March 21, 2005 The springs are coiled over the struts on the rear of the montes and lumina's? So I'd need a spring compressor? Quote
pwmin Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 yes. same principal as the front. "mcpherson strut assembly" Quote
briandors Posted March 21, 2005 Author Report Posted March 21, 2005 I guess I'll keep my eye open for a 96 GP. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Although the 95-99 Monte and 95-01 Lumina had coilovers in the back, the front strut assemblies are identical to the 90-94 Lumina, 88-96 GP/Regal, and 88-97 Cutlass Supreme. So to answer your original question, the 97 Cutlass Supreme was the last W to have the monoleaf in the rear... Quote
