MoTox8410 Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 as the subject said what exactly does the resonator do and what does the inside look ???? just hollow???? Quote
GOT2B GM Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 I think it is a perforated pipe inside surrounded by fiberglass matting. Its purpose is to tune the exhaust tone and take away the raspiness (sp). Quote

mfewtrail Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 It cancels out certain sounds..but basically does what was posted above. I believe most(all?) use the reflective principle to bounce sound waves against one another in order to cancel out certain sounds/frequencies. Do a google search on "Helmholtz resonators" and you'll find more information on them. Quote
MoTox8410 Posted March 21, 2005 Author Report Posted March 21, 2005 so do they create any backpressure?? Quote
digitaloutsider Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Very little if any at all. Why would you be so worried about backpressure? Quote
Lee Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 If you find a flow tech "purple hornies" glasspack and look inside, you will find the same scallop cuts as in quality motorcycle exhausts. At least the older ones. I haven't looked down many cycle pipes in the last 10 years. It is a heavier steel and seems to be better than most packs. I've had mine on for nearly three years. I did paint it silver though. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I wonder if my 3100 would sound more like a 2.8 if the resonator was removed... I miss that sound. Quote
