GTPrix
What do you guys think (for my GTP): I was thinking of running a 3" "offroad" downpipe from a guy over at clubgp, which is 3" diameter through the downpipe and bolts up to the stock resonator. This means there is no cat, but I will be using stock resonator and mufflers. I want to keep the resonator because it isn't very restrictive and it will keep drone down in the cabin. OR Should I sue the downpipe with a cat, and take the resonator off? Also, how hard would it be to do the work myself? There would be no welding needed on option 1. Plus, with the first option, I would not be able to find a shop to do the work as removiong the cat would be illegal. All it is is 4 bolts (2 on each end), but I would think getting to the front 2 without a lift would be tough??? I have no e-check in MI Thanx in advance fellas Drew
john99gtp
hmmmm i would get a cat, just cause you dont know when/if your gonna get e-check. here in NH, theres a rumor its being put in place now and they would fail inspection here instantly if you have no cat. so IMO, go with the cat. myself, im going with TOG headers, an RT downpipe (with hiflo cat) that bolts to the togs, and leaving the resonator (these cars sound like ASS with no res). i got everything in, just need a good weekend to do it (and to find some people that wanna help) John
GTPrix
How hard do you think it will be bolt up in the driveway with ramps? Im not too sure how high up the DP bolts on. Drew
john99gtp
well, that i dont know either. it depends on how easily you can work undercar. i know headers and DP take 10 hours or so, but just a DP shouldnt be too bad. the hardest part might be just getting the pipe in and out (manuavaring it) If i ever get around to my headers/dp, ill let you know
Dannymik
and how much is an 3" RT DP? I was thinking of going that route in my GT although I would be looking at a 2.5" due to being N/A. Custom Cut, did u delete the ubend?
john99gtp
my downpipe is a 3" in / 2.5" out 2.5" bolts to factory exhaust (on GTPs, not sure about GTs) you can find them for decent price on clubgp classifieds. brand new is like 330, but comes with high flo cat and bolts right to stock manifolds
Dannymik
ok, thanks!
john99gtp
forgot to mention, some bolt to stock manifolds, so watch out when you buy it (not all do) some bolt to stock, some bolt to TOGs, so just make sure they specify if your getting it from someone else. GTPrix
No I haven't done the u-bend but the pipe im lookin at will take care of that too. http://www.jimmycracing.com/default.asp Drew
mfewtrail
I would just go ahead and go catless if I were you, you'll need an o2 simulator or you will get an SES light after installing a catless downpipe. It is possible to build your own o2 simulator, but I think the aftermarket plug-n-play style are pretty cheap now anyways.
GTPrix
What reason for going catless other than better flow? Would the exhaust smell funky or nething? Drew
mfewtrail
What reason for going catless other than better flow? Would the exhaust smell funky or nething? Drew No e-check & cheaper downpipe = why not. The exhaust will smell noticeably stronger, but it's not bad(you won't smell it unless you stand behind the car basically). The exhaust will also be a bit louder with no cat(even with the stock mufflers). When you upgrade the mufflers, you'll probably want to have a resonator on it(I would ditch the stock one in favor of a universal 12-16'' style resonator)...3800's don't sound that good when loud.
