mfewtrail
Make sure to clean your mating surfaces well, and use a good bit of rtv on the corners where the lower manifold meets the block. Also replace your injector o-rings so you don't get any fuel leaks/fires...lube them up with vasoline/di-electric grease or something to that nature and they'll slip back in easier and won't tear your new o-rings. rudefyet
anyways...i couldn't finish the job today due to the rain but heres where i'm at, the quick connect fitting circled in red wont budge (the gold bit is a sensor, the line is right underneath it)...i'll get it out though i was just too pissed off yesterday to finish it i just threw the coolant over flow and throttle body back under the hood so i could get everything out of the way after that hose comes out, it's all downhill from there, reassembly is gonna be so much FUN! leave to me to take a 3-4 hour job and make it take 3 days i discovered 2 things though... a broken vacuum line under the plenum, and my valve covers were leaking (especially the rear one)

GutlessSupreme
The big coolant line you're talking about was a bitch a three quarters... was also the hardest part of getting the TGP's LIM off Since I had already unbolted everything else, I literally had to stand on the LIM to hold it in place while I tried unbolting that damn line. I used a really shitty open end wrench on one side, and a Craftsman self-adjusting locking plier on the other... fuck was that took ever a life saving. It still took forEVER, but the thing's got a x4 multiplier cam so there was no way the fucker was coming off once locked on. Took some effort but the bitch finally broke loose and came off one 1/4 turn at a time.
rudefyet
any other ideas before i head to sears? this crescent wrench ain't gonna work i need to know what size wrench to get for that fitting...anyone?
Justin
Good luck, hope it doesn't break on you like it did for me. It's pretty brittle metal. There is a special easy-out made just for them if it does break, it's a pain in the ass if you don't have it.
R Dubya
You are talking about the coolant line that runs back down to the heater core right?? The one with the pipe thread and standard thread on opposite ends? I replaced that piece because I just about stripped it down completely. IIRC, dont hold me to it but it's a big wrench, maybe 13/16 or 15/16. I don't think the 1" was it.. but I could be wrong. It's been a while. I think 7/8 was too small.. I dunno. I suggest removing that sensor first, and then you have an easier path at it. I think to get it off I ended up using a pipe wrench, or giant pliers as some would call them. I'm no master mechanic but it came off.. but as I said I replaced that piece. Good luck.
Robby1870
Yeah, sensor off first, then an adjustable crescent wrench.
R Dubya
Also keep in mind that if you remove that nipple, you need to make sure that you put some sort of thread sealant on it. If yours is the same design as mine, there is pipe thread into the manifold, and then a pressure fitting for the steel line that leads to the heater core. Make sure to put pipe thread sealant or some sort of coolant grade sealant on it before you go and re-install.

I talked to rude' earlier in the chatroom and he stated he already has some sealant for it when I asked him the same thing. Also, we concluded that the size was 1 & 1/8'' or either 1 & 1/4''(looked closer to 1 & 1/8'' to me judging by the way a 1'' wrench is barely too small to fit it, someone else was borrowing some of my larger wrenches so I couldn't give him the exact size ). rudefyet
yeah...the crescent wrench kept slipping...i despise crencent wrenches that's why i need to size so i can get a real wrench GutlessSupreme, what size open-end wrench did you use? rudefyet
took me a week for my lazy ass to get this far, i got the LIM off changed the gaskets and started reassembling before i messed up my wrist aside from hurting m wrist, i also almost got kicked out of my house and almost got arrested today. I'm starting to think my GP is bad luck :?
rudefyet
done...took me 1.5 weeks...of which i only worked on the car 3 times It runs sooooooo much smoother now, and quieter for some reason Seems to shift smoother too, i assume that's cause i fixed a broken vacuum line Now I just hope to god my head gaskets don't blow
