water pump and alternator pulley

Hey everyone, well lets see i was wonderning today on my way home from school. And when i pulled in the driveway i heard the water pump pulley squeeling, or like chriping. When i took the serpetine belt off and spun it, it was very loose so i am wondering if the water pump is bad?

On to the alternator pully, i think its the wrong size since its the 2nd reman alt. the car has had since i have owned it. It looks like the edge of the pulley closest to the case of the alt. there is alot of black like powder, and it feel really sharp, and i pulled like a strip of rubber off the belt. It is ripping up my serp. belt really badly. So i was wondering if anyone knew where i could possibly just get the alternator pulley, instead of buying a new alternator.

any help as soon as possible id really appreciate!

Due to the "black powder" as you describe it, I'd suspect that your belt tensioner is on its way out. That's usually a sign that the tensioner is not putting enough tension on the serp belt...

^^ I was gonna say that! :P

I recently replaced the tensioner on our van (3.1). What happened was it wouldn't start cause the belt fell off. When I tried to slip the belt back on I noticed that the tensioner would move side to side- so if that's the case it could be causing uneven belt wear.

alrite ill prolly end up changing the water pump since its pretty cheap, but im still worried about that serpentine belt that is getting eaten by the alternator pulley.
