Im looking at a used 3.4 DOHC from a 94 Monte carlo with 101k... will this work in a 92 GP? Im almost sure its the same engine, but does the wiring need to change, or anything else?

Thanks

Funny you should mention it, I just tonight started my 1992 Lumina Z34 with a 1994 GM crate engine. Here is every problem we ran into:

The biggest was the alternator. You will need a 94-95 alternator, and all of the mounting brackets. About $300, and you have to cut/splice for the new plug to work right. But if the 95 enigne has the alternator, all you will need to do is splice in the new plug. Leave the cam sensor, and the extra crank sensor unplugged if you use the 91-93 ECU. Also, there was a yellow plastic thingy, I think it is an oil level sensor, on the front of the new pan, and my old ones don't have it. So I ignored it.

I think that is all, I honestly can't think of anything else we HAD to do, although we did a lot of things just for good measure, like new gaskets, belts, etc.

Interesting... I assume the shop i take it to would not have a problem with that wiring? Did you use your existing engine harness?

The wiring was easy, it is identical except for the alternator plug. Then just leave the 3 uneccesary sensors unplugged.

And is everything else the same? Like bults, exhaust things, all that crap?

Yes. My Z34 is a 93 with a 95 crate motor in it. Just like Aaron said, it will work. You will have to change the alternator plug, and leave a few plugs un-plugged.
