Odometer Problem on 89 Supreme..

My odometer has said 'Error' for years on km, but tells me total Miles. As a solution, I've always kept it on trip odometer, because it would show total km's since last reset. I would reset it every time I filled up with gas.. Now this problem has grown into this.. It resets itself at random, but right before it does, it will show 1638.3km on the trip. When it shows this, it will show for a random amount of time, but it will not add any to the total miles. It actually shows 'error' on total km and total miles when it says 1638.3km. Is there a fix for this? I have two of the upgrade clusters, will installing one fix this problem?

The 1638.3km also shows when in drive, park, reverse.. doesn't seem to be partial to any gear. Also, I have never let the trip get that high, as 650km was the most I could ever get out of a tank of gas

Install the better cluster. Sounds like a solder problem in the one you're using now. A friend of mine had a '90 CS with the base cluster, and one day he was driving it and the miles reset to 000000, then went to error. Once you upgrade the cluster you won't have any more problems, they are made by a different company(nippondenso).

My old Cutty would go all black on the dash then you could hit the top of the dash make it go out and back in when ever you wanted...I used that to my advantage for years LOL.....3 warnings and never a fixit ticket..

OK.. thanks for the help guys.. Since I have 2 of the UB3's sitting around, I'll put one in and see that helps.

I did notice today though that every time I stopped at a light, it would show the 1638.3km and then reset after I was driving for about 0.2km
