Aaron
Hey guys, can I use the 91-95 bolts for the 96 intakes, the long bolts that attach the upper to the lowe rint eh front? I think there are 7. Are the bolts the same? Update: Ok we ordered the parts today, and everything is looking up, hopefully I'll get these on and running for the dyno day. I have the following 96-97 fuel rail/injectors 96-97 upper and lower intakes LS1 75mm throttle body 90* 3" mandrel bent aluminum That is all I have so far, I am going to try and make it work with the 91-95 valve cover. I still need to get some aluminum plates, and cut them for the flanges ont he UIM and on the LS1 TB. I do not yet know what IAC or TPS I will use, it is either the 92 or the LS1 parts, probably the LS1 IAC and the 3.4 TPS. Assuming the LS1 has the nipples for the coolant lines, I am going to run those without doing the bypass as its negative effects overcome the positives by far, and provide a danger to engine and heater core. I still need to get the gaskets, and some small bolts, and make an EGR block off plate. I should have all the parts by Wednesday, and I need it running right by Friday. slick
I would not see why not. If anything, give them a try. But, I don't remember anyone mentioning needing new bolts as well.
Aaron
I can't give them a try. Oh well, we shall see...Let's get an update here...
99RegalGS
Do you have the 96,97 coolant bypass tube that runs from the water pump to the lower intake?
slick
Will the older style thermostat housing work with the newer intakes or not?
99RegalGS
Don't think it will. I just swapped the whole thing over so I'm not positive.
slick
Well, thats good for me. I have one here. Kinda sucks for Aaron though. Looks like he will have to find one.
99RegalGS
No it will not work. Just looked at my intake vs. the 91-95 intake. The 96,97 intake thermostat is horizontal and the 91-95 intake thermostat is vertical. Here are pics comparing. Mine (96): Here Pic taken from cardomain. slick
Yeah, that is true. Now that I think about it when I was swapping my intake gaskets, i remember the thermostat neck sticking upwards, where as this one sticks outwards.
Aaron
I can't get the fucking lower intake manifold to bolt up for the life of me. The holes just won't line up, and it is pissing me off. THey need to sink down and crush the gaskets, but they won't do it. So I doubt I will have it running anytime soon, and no dyno. Just a little update...
99RegalGS
Ran into the same problem. Here's what you do. Get one bolt in the center just barely started. Then push down on the other side and start that bolt. Tighten each bolt down a little. Then start putting in the rest of the bolts.
Aaron
I broke the lower intake trying to force it, so I won't be doing this until May. BUt thnaks regalgs, you have been more than helpful!

BUt thnaks regalgs, you have been more than helpful! How bad did it break? No problem helping out, I'm glad I can help. I will definately keep that in mind for when I finally get around to swapping my intakes. Yeah, It took me about 20 minutes of tinkering before I figured this out. JUST BE SURE TO USE 96,97 LOWER INTAKE GASKETS!!!! Right Aaron?
slick
IIRC, he said he broke a corner off of it. Basically, the way it sounds from talking to him, it's useless.
Aaron
Right. It broke a corner off of it, so it can't be used. Oh well, I'm pissed, but now I don't have to rush it. What did you do about the coolant lines to it? They aren't tapped for a plug or anything.
99RegalGS
Right. It broke a corner off of it, so it can't be used. Oh well, I'm pissed, but now I don't have to rush it. What did you do about the coolant lines to it? They aren't tapped for a plug or anything. Oh, I'd like to see a pic of it once if possible. I don't remember a tapped hole for one of the coolant lines. I can look tomorrow though.
slick
What did I have to modify for the vacuum lines again?
99RegalGS
Depends on how many 96,97 components you're going to use like the 96,97 purge solenoid, and the MAP are in different spots. http://www.buickv6.com/Pictures/Sean%20Stuff/Engine.jpg might be able to get an idea from that pic. I kept the 91-95 MAP and purge solenoid locations also
Aaron
Well just make sure all of your vac line shave a vac source. The two coolant outlets from the 96-97 intakes, one goes to the TB, the other feeds the heater core. Neither in the LIM are threaded, how do you attach them? 99RegalGS
oh, those. They both use O-Rings. the 96,97 coolant bypass tube has a bolt that holds it in, similar for the intake arm.
