Kalgorn
I did the whole paper clip trick to read the code and it threw me a 24. Trouble Code 24 indicates that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not sending the expected (based on other system parameters like LV8, TPS, RPM etc.) signal to the ECM. Code 24 will be set if vehicle speed equals zero 0 mph when: VSS indicates less than 2mph. MAP is less than 30 kPa. Engine speed is between 2200 and 4400 RPM TPS is less than 2%. Not in Park or Neutral No Code 21, 22, 33, or 34. All conditions met for 3 seconds If the code was logged when the vehicle was in motion, the following should be checked: 1. VSS circuit open, shorted to ground, shorted together 2. Faulty Connections 3. Defective VSS 4. Defective ECM 5. A faulty or misadjusted Park/Neutral (P/N) switch can result in false Code 24. Unfortunately I don't understand too much of this. The code was logged while the vehicle was in motion from what I can remember. I think it was as I was coming to a stop. Any help with this would be appreciated. I happen to find it odd that I've thrown a code a few rare times in the past but never actually had some sort of negative effect from it. Are new codes logged in one big log until the ECM is cleared or does a new code overwrite a previous code?
White93z34
every time you pull your battery terminials codes are lost, if you pull more then one code they will go from lowest numbered to highest in sequence when being read back out, new codes do not overwrite old codes. i'd find out how accurate your speedometer is before doing much else. 3pt1lumina
My Lumina's VSS was unplugged and I got that code. I crawled under there and plugged it back in, cleared the computer and I've never seen it again. Now a code 32 that my car always throws, well that's a different story. :? But if it was unplugged, wouldn't I get the code all the time? I only throw a code once every couple months. This is the only one I've checked so far though. If I have any guess, maybe the VSS was loose and only throwing the code a few times? Then when the light went on constantly was when it actually came all the way off? In any event... I never thought of a bad ground for your case like 1990lumina did.. try that.
