riceca
Hey guys... I have a 96 Buick Regal with the 3.1 that is my daily driver....Not a street racer or a hot rod. Just my daily driver. Is there anything out there that I might be able to do to give it a bit more power but not be to crazy. I am thinking maybe a K&N. Any other ideas? lata CHRIS
3pt1lumina
Performance exhaust, K&N filter, cold air intake, maybe a chip depending on how much faster you want to go. I dont know much about the chips.. fellow members, fill me in too please?
DiscoStudd
Swap in a 3400 top-end. If your car has the roller rockers, all you need to to is swap over a upper and lower intake manifold from a 96 or 97 GM Minivan with the 3400. Open your oil cap (on the valve cover) and peek in at one of the rocker arms. If you see a roller fulcrum, then you have "roller heads." If you see stamped rockers inside, then you will have to swap your heads over as well (the stamped rockers hit against the larger runners of the 3400's lower intake manifold.) You cannot simply switch from the stamped over to the roller rockers due to a design change to the heads when they switched over to roller rockers. You can try these places for parts: http://www.rsmracing.com http://www.mantapart.com Also join the forum over at http://www.60degreev6.com as they will point you in the right direction... Justin
Here are some sample images, note how the stud coming out of the head just sits in the cup in this pic, this is stamped And in this pic you can see the cross-shaft built into the rocker arm, rocks with a couple bearings in there. That's a roller rocker. 60* rockers aren't exactly the same, but very close, just look for the cross-shaft, and if there isn't one and it just looks like stamped steel, then you have stamped. GP1138
I just now checked, and I definitely have the stamped. :x :x And I didn't get new heads because I read that you could just grind down the new lower intake. Fuck!

Well I could have got you the pics yesterday because I had both a stamped rocker 3100 (in my GP) and a roller rocker 3100 (in the Loomie) in my possession, but as you already know I traded them both in this morning . riceca
The topend swap sounds like it would be a good thing but that is going alot farther than I am wanting to with this car. Like I said this is just my reliable daily driver. I have other cars/trucks to play with and make big power. I am just thinking of trying some things to help the car run better and maybe make a little better power in the process. I do appreciate the ideas. But that is going a bit farther than I am wanting to right now. lata CHRIS
DiscoStudd
Check out this site: http://www.3400swap.com Swapping in a 3400 in place of your 3100 is about as "plug-n-play" as it gets! Not to mention cheap as hell. You'll notice a hefty difference in power between the 3100 and 3400...
riceca
I will check it out.... Thanks for the help. CHRIS
Robby1870
If you're just looking for something to spice up the motor just a little bit, go with a K&N and a basic exhaust. You should notice a little boost in MPG too. You're in TN, so emissions wont matter so you might consider going no cat with a glasspack or turbo tube or something in place to add that little bit of back pressure needed to boost low end torque a little. GP1138
That 3400 swap is looking fucking tasty... but I have nowhere to do it. I'd be buying a motor off Patgizz, but I've got nowhere to swap, and I've never done it before.

What I think I might do is just get a K&N drop in filter for now. and... When and if the 3.1 motor lets loose I will replace it with a 3400 lata CHRIS

HokemBokem
John I thought you already did that swap OR maybe I just saw you taling about it in some other post?
JoroCorona
On Justin's post--Both pictures are roller rockers. Yeah, They are both roller rockers. It doesn't matter if the center bit is bearinged or not, the tip will either have a roller on it or no roller. If its got a roller, its a roller rocker. Its its just alittle dimple where that rollar would be, its a stamped rocker.
