3pt1lumina Posted March 2, 2005 Report Posted March 2, 2005 How hard is it to replace the rack and pinion on a 90 Lumina? I got the rack and pinion used from a friend for free when he broke the subframe on his 93 Regal. The used subframe he got had a rack and pinion on it, so he used it and I took the one that came off of his car. This rack and pinion is in good shape and has no leaks but how much work is it to change? And is it worth changing if I only have to fill the fluid up every 6 months or so? Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 I personally think it's a pain. You have to disconnect the exhaust and lower the rear of the subframe to get it out. You also have to pop out both outer tierods, disconnect the steering lines which are in a crampy place to get to, etc. I definitely don't think it's worth it if you only have to fill the fluid up every 6-months. I would wait till it gets worse, but then I'm a lazy ass. Quote
3pt1lumina Posted March 3, 2005 Author Report Posted March 3, 2005 haha no that's the same thing I was thinking. We're not lazy; we're avoiding a major PITA. Quote
