skiiirt
Recently my buddies blazer was broken into. They stole some cd's because they couldnt get the car to start. He said the car came with a factory kill switch. The starter turns but it wont turn over when the switch is enabled. This switch is under the dash, looks like a flip switch. Since my school is in a shady neighbourhood I too would like one of these. Anyone have any ideas?
Cutlass88er
When I wired the Cutty with a remote started, the starter was a yellow wire comming off the ignition. I think if you splice a toggle swith into it you may have a kill. You will really want to test out the wires in the harness. And be carefull on newer Ws there is a big yellow wire that controls the airbags, you don't want to kill that one
DiscoStudd
I'd say wire a kill switch into the fuel pump wiring. Find the "Load" wire off of the FP relay, cut it, and splice in your wires. The glovebox would be a good place to put the switch so you can lock it after you kill the FP...
skiiirt
i cannot lock my glovebox but thanks for the ideas! I'll have to go and get a manual to find out what wires I can mess with.
GutlessSupreme
The '85 Monte I was supposed to get had a kill switch. it was under the dash in line with the steering column. Used those cylindrical keys to unlock. When you pushed the face of it in, the hood release would not work and the engine wouldn't start. I can't remember what it killed though, whether it was the starter or whatever.
HokemBokem
Thats a pretty cool feature. I didnt know you could just make one so easy.
GnatGoSplat
Easiest way would probably be just to wire something into the ECM fuse in the fusebox. There is one in the interior fusebox, pull it and the car will crank all day but not start.
Jcrow
If you did the ecm fuse the car would have to re-learn everytime you flipped the switch. I say the signal wire to the fuel pump relay.
GnatGoSplat
If you did the ecm fuse the car would have to re-learn everytime you flipped the switch. No, it wouldn't. ECM has 2 power inputs like a car stereo. Constant, and switched. The fuse for constant is in underhood. The fuse for switched is in the interior fusebox. It's only hot when ignition is on. If the ECM doesn't get the switched power, it just stays asleep.
Jcrow
Sorry, I didn't know that
1990lumina
My friends 89 Taurus LX has a kill switch under the dash you click with your foot. When engaged and you turn the key everything activates except the starter. You can hear the fuelk pump going and everything.. One of my other friends has a 85 Camaro IROC-Z and the previous owner put a switch in that car. It isn't really a switch though. You have to put point one of the air vents a certain way for the starter to engage. It is pretty cool since not to many people would thing to move the air vents around...now the secret is out! Lol But do like the other people have been saying as to how the wiring goes and such! Good luck - Jeff L.

Psych0matt
so what would happen then if you were driving and happened to move the vent out of that position?
GutlessSupreme
so what would happen then if you were driving and happened to move the vent out of that position? You're not using the starter if the engine's already running, are you? o.O
1990lumina
^^^I dunno since I've never driven in it. He is restoring it so when its all done I'll ask him. He was talking about removing it for that very reason, but we've (my other friends) told him to keep it in because it is cool! - Jeff L. Does ANY car need the starter once it's already running?

My friend has a Ford escort and he wants to put in a push start for that reason. He thinks hidin the button in his ash tray will fool ppl when they try to steal his car
