95DropTop
Any of you guys up north deal with this guy for a transmission in the past? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7957563583&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT I toasted the trans in my convertible and need to get it replaced ASAP! I think their core charge is outrageous, but aside from that, I don't think any shops around here will rebuild mine for that price and provide a 2 year warranty. Plus I think my internals may be a bit messed up to use in a rebuild - translation is my core charge will be minimal - but I can live with that. I was just wondering if any of you had used them before and could provide some more insight. Thanks Thomas
92chevyeuro
Sounds like a pretty good deal. 2 year warranty is not bad. I think im going to have to replace my trans soon. It gives me something to think about. I think I would buy that trans before taking it to a trans shop. Example- my uncle has an 87 Buick century with the 3.8 engine. He had the trans rebuilt 2 years ago at cottman transmision, and it starting to slip again. He only got a 6 month warranty with it. I dont want that to be me. 3pt1lumina
Be weary of a rebuild unless you know of a really good shop. If the transmission ever goes in my Lumina, I'll take it to my shop teacher's father which has been rebuilding for years. If you take it to just any transmission shop, only do it if they are going to give you a decent warranty. My grandfathers Pontiac 6000 dropped the tranny after 12k after the rebuild. Then again, a shop full of dumbasses worked on the car and there was only a 6mo/6k warranty. In my opinion though, if you don't know a good shop, go new. In the long run it'll prove to be cheaper. gp90se
Junkyard trannys are usually about $150-$300 and once in a while you can find a low milage one.
95DropTop
I got the trans about a week after paying via paypal. Called the comany and the owner listed on the website answered. Real nice guy; got me the correct trans but it had to be built after I ordered. Took a week to get it to the shop. The shop was able to install and I was only down 9 days. Total for the trans was $1335.00, but that included $350 for the core and the shipping for the core back to them. Shop charged me $500 to remove and reinstall. I am up to $1850 so far. I may get back my core deposit when they receive my trans and check it. As long as the parts are rebuildable, I will get my money. The good news is the trans shifts perfectly. Smooth and silky shifts with no problems. I was having an issue with a hard shift into Drive and now it is smooth as well - that may have been what lead to my trans demise in the first place, or it could have been the result of the problem. Bottom line, I get 24000 miles of coverage on a trans that is as close to new as you can get. Oh, they also cover labor and shipping for their warranty...assuming they will actually honor their warranty. The job was finished just in time for the weather today...almost 70 and sunny - had to put the top down and cruise! Kinda made me feel better about the car after spending all that money. Come summer, I will have forgotten all about the trans - assuming it does not give me problems. If you need a trans, you cannot beat their prices and their customer service is top notch as well. If you are close, you can save shipping. That is my plug for RoadMasterz transmissions in Schaumburg IL.
