well i know this has been posted a 1,000,000 times and ive used the search tryed everything and some of the other members cars are doing the same as mine but i have differnt symptoms ok here goes the list of what going on with it. running very rich, oil pressure isnt evan going past 20 psi on the gauge, rpms wont go above 4k even in neutral or gear, dies at almost every stop light/sign , back firing bad ,when i come to a stop light/sign the car bucks up and down the rpms , studders off the line, dont want to switch out of any gear if i have it wot , if i wot it and its above 1 gears speed 35 it will still drop into 1 redlineing it , when im at any speed cruising the rpms will drop low then buck up and down and feels like the tranny is popping in and out of gear , it used half a tank of gas in a 30 mile trip that how rich its running , if im at a red light/sign and if it dont die or buck its running a 500 rpm and my lights get very dim, thats about it

things ive replace/new parts

3 new coil packs

icm

pvc

gutted the cat

collant sensor

idel control valve

cleaned the egr tb and upper intake

Sounds to me like a failing alternator, along with a weak battery. When the alternator fails on these cars, the electical stuff goes bananas! The thing that tips me off to this is that you say your lights are dim as well.

i have a new alternator only 3 weeks old i had it checked 2 days ago every thing was fine with it and the battery is only a few months old and it checked out fine to it only dims when the rpms drop below 1k going to a stop and when i let off the gas the rpms drop way way down tot he point of stalling and then i put it in neutral and they jum back up to 2-3k at the stop light while in neutral

Well, i would listen under the hood for a vacuum leak for starters. Then watch your coolant resevior for any air bubbles. You could have a bad intake gasket causing the poor driveablity, worsy case a head gasket. THe tranny thing does sound like a TCC solenoid. If you havent yet, get the code pulled thats causing the SES light taht would be a good place to start.

You might also consider the TPS and the CPS.

The tps is what tells the comp where the throttle is and what to adjust. i know poorly wrote but i cant think of how else to say it. It is located on the front side of the throttle body and is attached by 2 torx head bolts. In reply to your response I had a 3.1 beretta that was doing the same thing with the motor and my 90 grand prix ste turbo was doing the same black smoke thing.

an O2 sensor that is internally (or wiring) is shorted to ground, the PCM will cause the engine to run rich, i have seen two cars with this problem (rare but it happens) also have you driven it with a manifold vacum gauge and a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and taped to the windshield? what about the PCM's short and long term fuel trim values? I'd recomend having someone ride shotgun with the scantool and watching it closely (inj PW, MAP/MAF hz etc) there may be an issue with a corroded (sensor?) ground or bad battery cables, have you checked you voltage drop across all of your grounds?

He's just trying to be funny. I'd bet if you weren't so frustrated, you might have laughed. The TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor. I'm almost positive it's on the throttle body. (I say almost because if it's for whatever reason not, I'm not at fault)
