dmhoo29
I have a 1990 BUICK REGAL GS/3.8/ V.6/AUTO. When driving the car will be running fine, then it will jerk and then die. It usually starts right back up,and when you start it back it will run fine for a while like a around town a mile or so then do it again. It will do it when your slowing down to stop,or turning the corner.I have not checked real good, but it does not seem to do it while driving down the highway????????????? :bawl:
94CutlassSLCoupe
how new is your fuel filter? When I had my '88 CS, it used to stall when you put it in reverse....I changed the fuel filter out (costs like $7), put some gumout extra fuel injector cleaner in the tank, ran it hard for a tankful and it ran fine after that. GP1138
Check the Idle Air Control Valve. Does it happen when you shift into drive, or reverse? You might clean it.
dmhoo29
It dies only when I am going down the road, or when I turn the corner, or stop. When I'm setting still with it running it is fine.

THe_DeTAiL3R
I dunno if those engines have a MAF, if so maybe it's bad. You should clean your IAC (as someone stated above) and the TB, top engine cleaner. I say take a couple hundred bucks, go to the parts store and get everything you need to do a full tuneup. Brian P
Yeah it's got a MAF, and they're known to go bad. As a minimum, maybe cleaning it would help.

dmhoo29
what's a MAF? and what's is IAC?
GP1138
what's a MAF? and what's is IAC? MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor IAC = Idle Air Control the MAF senses the amount of air passing through the throttle body The idle air control controls the amount of air that goes through to keep idle speed specific. 3pt1lumina
try the IAC... had the same problem with my 90 3.1 Lumina.. took me forever to figure it out but that did solve the problem. also, if the check engine light comes on, get that coded asap.. that may help you immensely if it ever goes on. maybe2fast
is it the TCC locking up and stalling the engine
joberlee
is it the TCC locking up and stalling the engine Good idea. Unplug the big plug on the front of the trans and see if it still does it.
3.1LUMITIC
another dumb question what the tcc my car is doing the same as his?
Robby1870
TCC = Torque Converter Clutch. This little device locks the sides of the torque converter (one that the engine turns, and the other tranny fluid turns, which turns the tranny over) so that have the same angular velocity. Usually, when its not locked up, the tranny side (stator, I think) will turn a bit slower than the engine side, due to losses in the fluid that turns it. Locking of the Torque Converter gives better gas mileage because the engine rotational speed is more direcly related to transmission rotational speed. I can go more indepth, if you would like. I still think this could be caused by the CPS.

joberlee
TPS =Throttle Position Sensor, I think he meant he cleaned the IAC (Idle Air Control).
Dannymik
Yeah it's got a MAF, and they're known to go bad. As a minimum, maybe cleaning it would help. When I had my '88 Regal it would pull that shit when I would slow down for a red light and such...MAF was changed and the Regal was all better! Are you getting a SES light?
