Moddedgtp Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 I hear there is a way to port your stock exhaust manifolds. Simply by takin them off and taking a Die Grinder to the insides of them. Is this true. If so that would be nice because aftermarket Manifolds are rediculous in price!! Quote

Correct me if im wrong but it doesent make a noticable difference. Quote
slick Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 Won't really be much of a difference. Think about it. What about the rest of the inside of the manifolds?? There not being ported at all, just where you can get die grinder to. Quote
Robby1870 Posted February 21, 2005 Report Posted February 21, 2005 If you had a larger downpipe and other internal mods, it'd prolly be something to consider, mainly just cuz its there. Quote
Moddedgtp Posted February 22, 2005 Author Report Posted February 22, 2005 I figure though if i have a small enough Die Grinder and I can get my hands on any kind cause my dads a Tool & Die maker I could get it all pretty much except the bends! What you all think? Nething would be better then stock Agree? Quote
no1kicker Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 I wouldn't take them off just to port them. But if they're off anyways, why not? Quote

dbtk2 Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 I ported mine to match them to my 3100 heads, but actually, the log type manifolds such as mine might flow a lot better, because the restriction seems like it would be at the ports, or at least thats what it looks like to me. I spent probably 30-45 min. on mine and they came out good. I didn't necessarily do it for a performance gain, I did it so they'd work, but I think it would make a difference. Shawn Quote
z34_nut Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 you know, this is kinda related, but i've seen some serious sleepers that accually have manifolds placed over headers, so you can't tell the difference. Quote
Intlcutlass Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 I have not looked at aW body manifold for some time, but I had leaky manifolds on the Fiero.... While I had them off I ported them. You could feel a HUGE difference. Some claim up to 7-10 hp. The rason is the way GM made them, the took a tube, bent it, then slit it where the the other two flanges would go, welded them on, and that all. When I took mine off, the restrictions were SO obvious. I don't think W body manifolds are like that, and I doubt you would feel a huge differencr if at all... I just thought I would chime in here cause I remember grinding out the ports on the Fieros stainless manifolds and how freggn long it took.... Quote
mfewtrail Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 One example of a similar car w/ ported exhaust manifolds + other mods. http://www.geocities.com/raflyer/car.html Quote
maybe2fast Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 get a spare pair and play with them, if they turn out nice put them on Quote
