sl3196
Well yesterday I washed my engine off. I didn't cover anything but didn't spray directly on the coil packs or anything. Then I put in new plugs, didn't start the car in between the two. Used NGK TR6's gapped at .054-.055. Anti-siezed the plug threads and put dielectric grease in the plug boots. All the wires are routed correctly and on snug. Still using the stock 100k spark plug wires. They don't seem frayed on the outside. Now the car idles fine, there is only a problem when moving under load/boost. Thinking it is bad wires or something got wet. Any ideas? TIA
terryk2003
sounds like it might be a bad wire...maybe caused by the dampness...also, make sure none of the wires got up against something they werent supposed to (something hott or metal) because they could be arcin out on something... sl3196
Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. Wires don't seem to be touching anything.
HokemBokem
I would try getting new wires
Guest TurboSedan
Dan, we should try pulling all of the spark plugs back out and recheck things. i bet one of the plugs will look different than the others, IOW a bad spark plug wire somewhere in there. it took ALOT of pulling/twisting to get the spark plug wires off of the 100,000 mile old plugs :!: so i think one wire may have gotten damaged in the process. sl3196
Yeah Josh that is part of the plan today. If they all look good and it still does it, I will put in the stock plugs to eliminate problems with the plugs. Going to get an ohm meter and check the wires and coils too. Think I'm going to order some new wires. You haven't left for deadwood yet?

no1kicker
I'm having a similar problem, although it's probably something different then yours. Did you try to start the car after washing, or did you just do the plugs?

Runs great now! did you find another NGK plug here in town? and did you end up replacing the wires too? No travis even called around at napa for me and nobody has them. Got some autolite 104's. BTW: It was the #6 plug by the o2 sensor. Remember that pop we heard when putting it in?

sl3196
Yeah must have torqued it too hard. I didn't think I used that much force though. Might have just been a weak plug.
Guest TurboSedan
nah i think we were sort of tightening it at a wierd angle since the O2 sensor was directly behind it in the way. that one was kind of a pita.

Yeah that was probably it. It was a breeze doing them the second time. Didn't even have to rotate the engine this time.
