GnatGoSplat
Stock, the L67 is 240-260HP and 280ft-lbs torque. LS4 is 303HP and 323ft-lbs torque. There are L67's in the 12's, maybe faster. It's a popular swap, maybe too popular. If a sideways Corvette motor is what you're after, the LS4 is pretty damn close. It's a Gen III V8 based on the LS1, so many LS6 parts should work on it. Its power potential is the same as any other GM Gen III V8. OBD2... well, that's your call, but I'm sure there are tons of people that know how to make the Gen III V8 work with more primitive electronics considering LS1's are a popular hotrodder swap. If you're into testing and tuning, building a 3.4 DOHC could be a lot of fun for you, but it's definitely time consuming. 2-YEARS later and Aaron's sig still lists a 14-second 1/4-mile time, and he's the biggest (or maybe just the loudest?) 3.4 DOHC advocate on the forum. :read:
Aaron
I'm probably one of the only...lol The car is in the 13s, and I am positive. But let's not get into that here. I will be selling my ITB setup here in a few months, and I think that, with a chip and cam timing, can easily net 250fwhp without totally massacreing the low end. Headers would also compliment it greatly. Engine swaps will do the trick, but there is no swap you will ever get that will have the unique feel of the 3.4L DOHC, and the high end power. Plus once you get this engine flowing some air, it sounds like a goddamned Ferrari.

Shit is getting deep in here, I can barely walk. L67 would be my choice for a swap. For a few hundred in mods you can get alot out of it. sonyman87
Plus once you get this engine flowing some air, it sounds like a goddamned Ferrari. well just dont confuse a ferrari with the 3.4dohc. ferrari 400hp 3.4dohc 200hp.. you get the idea. Im extreamly jelous of your oportunity to work on cars cheeply. Any chance you can hook me up with a 5-speed conversion, or a motor swap
Aaron
3.4dohc 300hp here getting closer, just a 3300AX away... Trust me it isn't cheap, and I work my ass off for the shit that is on my car. It is expensive, but worth it. I just can't wait to get these TBs on. I am going to install them on my white car if I have time, I'd like to get 300fwhp with them on, then I will put them on the red car for a stock comparison, hopefully 240fwhp. But I do have a lot of tools that make my life easy. A huge garage with an industrial gas heater (2 min and I HAVE to turn it off), a couple engine stands, a hoist of course, air compressor and air tools, and of course most every hand tool made. I could help you out with both of those, but you'd have to drive out here, and I am not putting anything else in it except for a 3.4L DOHC. I have an extra 5-speed lying around with driveshafts that we could put in. But it does have a bad 2nd gear synchro, but I'd still rather have that than a 4T60e. Just give it time, your tranny will be gone in no time (I'm amazed it still is working, fuck I'm amazed your whole car sitll runs )

Guest TurboSedan
lol sorry to go off topic i just gotta give Aaron shit and as for turbos.. those are for sissy ricer hondas with fart cans for exhausts. they should have never stolen the idea from the grand national... haha.. k guys go ahead and rip me a new one.. but anyways if you don't want to use a turbo then i'd forget about the 3.4L DOHC. LS4 would be awesome, you'd definately be breaking some new ground with that but i bet it would be hella expensive  the L67 sounds like the way to go. loominaz34
I'll advocate the 3.4 especially after going to the auto show yesterday and seeing that the g6 has a 3.5 liter 6 that makes the most power in class how much you ask? 200 HP. looks like a flashback to me. That's actually not bad considering the 3.5L is only .1L smaller in displacement and is making almost as much power with 12 less valves. Not to mention it's probably only about 2/3 the size and 2/3 the weight, and gets better fuel economy too. I nothing against the 3.4 DOHC, I even have one, but the 3.5L definitely isn't junk.
