Rob95CS Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Ok, so here's the problem I've recently run across. Sometime in the past couple days, I've lost 3rd gear in my 4T60E equipped 95 CS 3100. What it does is at the point where it should shift into 3rd gear, it just stays in 2nd. I can push 2nd gear to 3500 RPMs and back off the throttle and it'll go into 4th, so that gear works, and the TCC locks up no problem. What's going on here? No strangle noises coming from the trans, and the fluid level is where it should be and the same color as the day I put it in. Also, no SES codes being thrown. In a related incident, back in the summer on certain *extremely* hot days, my car would fail to shift into 4th gear and just stay in 3rd. Also had intermittent trouble with the TCC clutch not locking up. All functions would return to normal after a couple hours of being allowed to cool down, but that's not the case this time. I haven't had 3rd gear for about 4 days. So, is it time for a new transmission, or is all of this related to a failing Trans. Shift Solonoid? Any other ideas? Please give me good news Edit: Just realized I put this in the General forum. Maybe a Moderator could move it to Powertrain? Thx. Quote

GPRACER Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 2-3 shift solenoid sticking maybe? Quote
Rob95CS Posted February 12, 2005 Author Report Posted February 12, 2005 How would I diagnose this? Quote
Rob95CS Posted June 24, 2006 Author Report Posted June 24, 2006 I just got a private message about this today asking what I did, so I'm just copying it here for knowledge purposes. -------------- I did solve the problem, but the news wasn't good. I took it in to a transmission shop and they thought it was just a shift solenoid. When they got into it, it turned out that wasn't it so I gave them permission to tear it apart. They ended up replacing the 2nd gear clutch and the 3rd gear roller hub (my recollection is according to my bill). The clutch was weak. The roller hub, which is supposed to spin when turned in one direction and lock when turned in the other, spun freely in both directions. I got the whole thing done for $550.00, but transmission shops vary greatly in price. It fixed my problem and it works great to this day. Hello Rob, I read your problem with your transmission, that you had in feb 2005. Did you solve the problem? What was wrong with the transmission? My transmission does the same I hope you can help me. forward tnx, bye Jeffrey. Quote
White93z34 Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 thats a prety darn decent price for the work + installation and removal, glad to hear you got it going again. Quote
GOT2B GM Posted June 24, 2006 Report Posted June 24, 2006 The trans in my Z34 did the same thing this past winter....it was a failed 3rd gear sprag. Quote
