stockgp
how do the 95-95 cutlass door speakers mount? i know the tweeters had their own little pod that mounted to the door panel, but i can't recall whether the midranges had a pod, or mounted directly to the door in a cutout l;ike the rear six-by-nines. if they mounted in pods, i'd like to get a set of 5.25( i think that's what brian told me they were) midranges and crossovers to go with the cutlass tweeters i got. the tweeters sound pretty good, but the overall effect with the 6x9s playing bass and only tweeters in the front really sounds like shit. p.s. - does anyone happen to have a pic of a naked cutlass door? i'd like to see what it's going to take to get my cutlass door panels to fit my gp doors
GnatGoSplat
They go in plastic pods. Yes, they are 5.25". I can post a pic of a naked Cutlass door when I get home, if somebody doesn't beat me to it.

Carotop
What year cutlasses had door speakers? And they had a molded plastic piece that went over it right??
GnatGoSplat
It was available every year from 88-97. I thought 95-97's got them standard, but I could be wrong. It was optional 88-94. 88-94 used 4x6's.
Carotop
Were the 95-97s 6.5s? And was there a plastic panel or whatever that the speaker fitted in or was it a flush mount?
GnatGoSplat
The 95-97's were 5.25". Yes, there was a plastic cup that the speaker fitted in. It pushed the speaker out about an inch from the metal panel, and also slightly angled it up and back for better imaging. The plastic cups are about $5/each from GM if I remember right. Carotop
Was there a whole molding that went along the door too or no? I might try and pick up one of those cups.
GnatGoSplat
I think someone said the 95-97 door panels were 1-piece, so they're molded to fit around the cups. The cups are specific to each side, so you'd need a righty and a lefty.
stockgp
were the pre 95 cutlass door panels not one piece? i'm confused. the 97 panels i have are one piece, and iirc my 90 gp door panels are one piece as well.
GnatGoSplat
No, 88-94 Cutlass door panels are 2-piece. 1 good size piece (about 1/3 the door panel) around and below the seatbelt, and then the other 2/3 of the door panel is another piece. It's not really related to the speakers in any way though.
Carotop
Well the reason I asked was beacuase I like the clothe that is on the bottom 1/3 of the door and I also want door speakers but I don't want the plastic piece
GnatGoSplat
I guess I don't know which plastic piece it is you don't want. The speaker grille?
stockgp
i'm confused, too.
Carotop
Does anyone have a pic of the door on a newer cutty? I'm not sure if it has the plastic enclosure that goes around the speaker and spreads back to the back of the door and has a little "trash compartment or whatever" in it
Brian P
Photos of the door panel here: http://www.geocities.com/rhedalert/brianscutlass95.html The speaker grille is 6.5" yet the speakers are 5.25. Sucks ass, and I've tried a few different "non-half assed" methods of gettingh 6.5's in there. So far no luck. But I'll get it done.
Carotop
Yea on the door with the speaker thats the plastic piece I don't want. I might try and figure out how to just mount em behind the fabric piece
GnatGoSplat
I'm still not sure what plastic piece you're talking about, because the 95-97 trim panels are all 1-piece. Unless you're talking about the circle grille?
jeremy
i think he is talking about the grill.....
Carotop
I don't like the door panel all together. But I thought the bottom piece with the speaker grill and the little indent was a different piece.
Brian P
Nope. All one piece. The grill IS "removeable" with some effort, but thats it.
jeremy
the panels look a million times better with the leather on them....
Brian P
Nigga please. It's a '95 thing, no matching stripes on the top.
