Guest Anonymous Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 I've been thinking alot about my car lately and how the hell I'm going to be able to fix it... The 4th cylinder has about 25 pounds of compression... should be about 175-180, right? We're not sure why this is... again, this happened during a timing belt failure, so I'm going to assume its got a few bent valves. Anyway, is it possible to fix and replace these? Or do i really need a new engine? What else could cause the compression loss, considering the circumstances? Quote
sonyman87 Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 [edit] i apparently cant read [/edit] Quote
JoroCorona Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Didn't he say it lost compression during a timing belt failure? I'd be willing to bet that the valves are bent. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Yes, this occured during TB failure. Quote
slick Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I'd be willing to bet that the valves are bent. Most likely, yes. Quote
Baddflash Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 I'd say you'll probably need a new head atleast, considering the continued abuse that thing has gotten since that happened. Quote
White93z34 Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 i'm still saying that it is probably a head or 2 just swap them both to be sure. Quote
topless94style Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 well if your in need of a set of heads, i may have a set P&P for ya. Wont be any time soon, but within a month or two at the latest. Quote
Canada Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 25 psi is low......but its also a decent a bit of pressure.......its not like the piston is missing. You could have some screwed up rings.......but beings that you said it happened right after a timing belt failure, you've pry got a bent valve or three. Rip the heads off and find out! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Well, like I've said, it also runs rich and the exhaust chugs smoke when it starts... so I'm going to assume thats the valves? Quote
Canada Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I'd most likely say so. To make sure its not your rings (if you want).......squirt some engine oil down the spark plug hole and run your compression check. If it increases, its the rings (oil helps seal inbetween the piston and cylinder wall). Quote
