Turbo231 Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Hello, I'm doing a water pump replacement on my 3.4L DOHC this weekend. I've read a couple topics on a couple forums, but just wanted any additional tips or tricks people use. I will be doing a photo write-up on the project so guys like me can at least see it before it happens. My understanding is I've got 4 bolts on the pulley to water pump, and then the pump itself has 5 bolts to it's casing. Redo gasket, and then installation is reversal of removal....sound fair? Apparently I haven't got to undo any hoses as the casing is part of a larger more complex part. I did read a bit about people braking bolts, so I plan a day of soaking in PB Blaster. I'll also use a DIY gasket maker on either side of my gasket to ensure a seal. Any other tips? Thanks in advance... I'll be acquiring my pump from Napa unless I get flooded with horror stories. GnatGoSplat Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Sounds like you've pretty much got the procedure down. I found it difficult to tighten the pulley bolts real well since there's no real way to keep the pulley still. I've never had one come loose though. Quote

GnatGoSplat Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 Thanks Whiskey, great advice! I'll need to get a strap wrench to keep in my toolbox. Quote
Whiskey River Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I do agree, once I got my air tools, it does make removing and reinstalling that pulley considerably easier. The strap wrench still has a use whenever I have to fix the plumbing around here. Quote
