hosser
My friend has a 3100 that every once in a while he says it will start to run really hot, i have not got a chance to look at it, but he said that it starts to get real hot and when it does he turns the heat on full blast and almost immediately the gauge returns to normal. The problem sounded a little weird to me because i did not think the heater could cause the engine to cool of by that much almost instantly. Anyway he told me at one point someone changed his coolant and when they did they did not drain it all they way, he had dexcool coolant and somone mixed the green pre-diluted coolant with dexcool, could mixing of the coolants screw around with something? digitaloutsider
Mixing dexcool and green coolant is VERY bad, especially in an engine with shitty gaskets like the 60* 3x00's. Drain it immediately, flush it two or three times, and change the thermostat.
terryk2003
i have to agree that that coolant needs to be flushed out ASAP...then you might wanna change the t-stat...be sure to bleed the system when you refill it to get all the air out... CuttySup
After I flushed my system, my temp gauge would climb to 260 shortly after start-up, then rapidly plunge back to normal and stay there until you ran the engine again. Doesn't do it anymore.
Canada
Be sure to flush the cooling system..........not just the radiator. You might want to take it to a shop to do this. Wynn's has an actually decent flush for this. At the dealership I work at its roughly $85 to do so.
