ABS Light coming on

Just thought I would post this for all those who live in climates that receive large amounts of snow. I have recently been finding that my ABS warning light would come on as I started moving. After reading some posts inhere I hypothesized that it was likely a speed sensor on one of the wheels. What I discovered was that snow /ice had built up on the inside of the passenger front wheelwell and as soon as I cleared it away the sensor started reading properly. So if any of you are experiencing a similar issue try looking to see if there is anything built up in your wheelwells first.

Yep makes a lot of sense.

Also if your ABS light is on constantly, it is almost definately bad wheel speed sensors. I work in the car braking industry and that is where most of the ABS problems lie.

Happens to me all the time, and only when there's snow on the roads. When I turn the car off, and restart it, it turns off and doesn't come on for a while.

Same....sometimes it won't happen for an entire trip...sometimes it'll happen right after spinning my wheels....but only ever in snow.

Guest Gp crazy

Mine is the older type of abs PMIII ! 1990 ste aka work horse 154,999 never stoped so far !

The light comes on only when i hit a bump or going through deep snow at low speeds. I thought it was wheel lock up "e-break sticking" but nope that's free and lose. so im stumped ? like i use it anyways if i did my wife would forget about it and drive off she did it twice to me burned off the pads.

Mine has done that twice.. both times I turned the key to start the car too fast (I think it didn't give the ECM enough time to check the sensors). So I always leave the key in "on" position until the fuel pump is done it's noise, then start the car.

 I've never ever had that problem. Always flip the key real fast, and just a couple quick cranks and she's running.

Maybe the ABS thing only happens in the cold.. but that little tip about leaving it in "on" I saw on Discovery Channel..

I sure do! LOL

The Canadian science show "Daily Planet" is really good. Last week was "Ice week" and they had a guy who tests out cars for GM in the cold up North so he had some tips for winter driving.
