I posted this over at 60*v6 but i just got a lot of fuckin shit and since ppl are alot nicer and helpful here ill try here. My cars got a bad knock now i figured it was the main bearings or rod bearings but a friend listened to it and he said it dont sound like it. the noise comes from the right side and gets faster with the throttle but when u first start the car u can bearly hear it like its not evern there but after u give it gas once or twice u can hear it. I tried to get the oil pan off but the crossmember and somekind of gaurd is in the way. My question is does anyone know what it is and does anyone know how to get the oil pan off with the engine still in???

um for the record what was said on 60* v6 was true... any rate. one persons knock is someone elses chatter, if you have a sound clip you could post up that'd be a help. you could change your oil and see how glittery it looks....

hmm if it is "just the mainbearings" that prety much means rebuild, because it has scored the crank to some degree. theres always the chance that a flexplate bolt is loose and is causeing that knock, but since you say its to the right of the engine bay, i really doubt that.. i think you prety much nailed it when you told us on the 60* board that you went out to the car and held it to the floor when you started it... your location says "PA" i live in pa too, its prety damn cold out, engine oil gets thick in the cold. and reving the engine that high while cold is horrid for it.

if you really don't believe me, why not get a 10mm socket and ratchet and drop your oil pan down and tell us how bad it looks

what i'm saying is there is a posibility its something else, but not very likely since you told us on 60*v6 how you had been beating on the car.

Blew a rod, got raped by mechanic, way more parts went in that shouldnt have.

If I remember your post about this you have a 3.8 right?

didn't you get the intake done too or something.

The problem 3.8s have is the plastic intake leaks coolant into the oil, which thins out the oil and can cause a spun bearing/ rod knock/throw a rod.

However, on a 2.8 I would suggest that the 60* boys may be correct. You could also try draining the oil, and checking for metal in it. If the motor is toast you will see little metal flakes in the oil. Kind of like paint job looks like with metal flake, kind of like a pearl color.
